About

We built a system for tracking drones indoors in real time. A major problem that we had to solve was accurately getting the location of the drone since GPS doesn’t work inside. We used OpenCV, open source computer vision software, to track a landmark in the video feed. After calculating the distance, we can determine the exact position of the drone. Then the drone relays its position to a mapping system which can give the drone directions to fly to a specific point. A couple use cases for our product are to deliver coffee directly to someone’s office, or to deliver packages throughout buildings; however, our ultimate goal is to use the product to simulate an indoor air traffic control system for drones.
