  • Saturday
  • All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during the Hackathon Teams are encouraged to discuss and develop their ideas and sketch out a plan of action prior to the event but all technical designs and developed code for each entry must be created during the hackathon. Teams will be required to bring their own equipment necessary to build the app, including laptops, extension cords, data cards for accessing Internet, etc. Participants will be aided in their development efforts by technical mentors. These mentors will be floating resources during the event, be ready to answer questions, share information on what they know best, help solve problems that the participants encounter and keep moving them in the right direction. They will also help them prepare the final pitch. They will be asked to evaluate the performance of the participants-from preparation to responding to challenges - which will serve as inputs for the judges. The event has also invited business leaders and experts to act as impact/business mentors. They will interact with the participants intermittently: first to provide inputs on how to create an app that will create an effective impact, to assist participants during the course of the hackathon with challenges faced and finally provide an evaluation on the performance of the participants-from research to ability to adapt - which will serve as inputs for the judges. They will also help them prepare the final pitch. Judging will be based on the following criteria – How well did the app meet the theme of the hackathon? How innovative/creative/unique is the hack? Does the hack employ new/novel approach to solving the problem? What did impact mentors have to say about how much impact (quality & quantity) the solution could have? What did the technical mentors say about their overall preparedness, performance and the technical difficulty of the finished app? How well did the team explain their solution? How well did the demo communicate the idea?
