HACKATHON RULES

Challenge categories are:

HIV PREVENTION ● Early infant male circumcision: Infant Mogen clamp alternatives ● Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision PrePex ( http://prepex.com ) placement and removal tools (spatula, scissors, forceps)

HEALTHY MAMAS AND BABIES ● Prenatal toolkit items ● Neonatal aspirators/suction device

Teams Teams can be anywhere from two or more members unless someone is registered as an individual to work alone. At least one team member should be based in Tanzania. Other team members can be virtual members from other countries anywhere in the world. Intellectual property rights

All submissions remain the intellectual property of the individuals that developed them under their choice of Creative Commons license. All the hackathon submitted devices will be attempted to be 3D printed. The database of device files will be shared with all partners. Partners have the right to use or edit any files for humanitarian work. Files submitted must be able to be 3D printed upon submission or will be disqualified from winning awards. Unfinished files will not be considered for awards. The winning designs will be printed and field tested in Tanzania by Jhpiego under the New Frontiers Award Innovation grant.

Protection By submitting a the Hackathon Entry or accepting any prize, you represent and warrant the following; you will not submit content that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to post the content, you will not publish falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage the Hackathon, Sponsors, or any third party, you will not submit content that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, pornographic, harassing, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, You will not submit content (designs) that are copyrighted or protected by trade secret unless you are the owner of such right.

Copyright Participants represent and warrants that he or she is the sole author and copyright owner of the submission and the submission is an original work of the participants.

Winner Selection/Judging Criteria Winners will be judged based on the following criteria; ● Impact – Would the application have real social impact? Can it change the world, or at least help someone in the community? Does it solve a stated goal of the hackathon? ● Innovation and Quality– Is the solution novel? Does it solve a problem in a creative or never-seen-before way? ● Technical Achievement and compelling use – can the participant(s) solve a hard technical problem? Can they get a working demo completed within the allotted time? The contest winners will be selected by a panel of judges. All participants will receive a digital certificates of participation.

Awards Contest prizes are non-transferable by the winner. If you accept a prize, you will be solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting such prize. 1st place prize $500 2nd place $200 3rd place $100 All entries will be printed and photos added to the ReFab Dar and Voices of Africa websites. Every participants will receive a digital letter of participation.
