About
The Location Keyword Indexer (LOKI) is a prototype software tool that allows disparate forms of geospatial data to be indexed by location keywords that describe their their geospatial content. For image files, location keywords include names of geographic areas that the image footprint covers – including country names, cities, political boundaries, and landmarks. In text files, location keywords are any geographic location names or geo-political entities which can be automatically parsed out from the text. Keywords and references to the data they are obtained from are stored in a structured index file which can be accessed by other programs for search and analytics purposes. Much like how Google indexes websites so they can be quickly searched, LOKI aims to do this for geospatial datasets. Indexing the data beforehand allows for large datasets to be searched quickly, and allows different forms of data to be searched using a common system.
