Much of the coverage of the giant retirement crisis in America focuses on how Americans aren’t saving enough, they're being irresponsible, people are living too long, etc. etc. But we believe a huge and under-appreciated part of why retirement isn't working is the fact that employees are forced to save through confusing and expensive workplace retirement plans like 401(k)s that are riddled with conflicts of interest. So at the highest level, Dream Forward is a better, cheaper, and more transparent 401(k) that doesn't have any conflicts of interest. The days of pension plans in America are increasingly behind us, and if America is going to rely on 401(k)s they need to be improved. Dream Forward also helps employees manage their financial goals beyond retirement. Human nature is short-term focused, and the 401(k) industry's "horse blinders" that ignores all of the non-retirement goals employees have (e.g., new home, car, college, etc.) during enrollment is a big reason why employees don't feel confident enough that they can actually afford to save for retirement. There’s a huge disconnect between how it’s designed and the use case of the average American.
