About
PROBLEM WE'RE SOLVING: Charities have needs and local businesses have wasted food or other items. As time goes on, people want to be more aware of businesses that are being socially responsible. We created this app to encourage a community of good will. If everyone gives a little, a lot of good is spread. // INSPIRATION: Buy Nothing - a service for people to offer up their unused home items. Starbucks is also a leader in this cause because of their responsible use of coffee grounds and not-prime food. // HOW IT WORKS: Registered businesses and charities are paired together based on available inventory and wish lists. The app creates a way to schedule pick ups or deliveries of these items. // CHALLENGES: we ran into a few. 1) Not being able to find item category from the UPC data. We could use Semantics3 API but the format of the JSON response is not consistent across different kind of items. // NEXT STEPS: There is a lot of potential for this app. We need to test this on current potential users. We hope to expand to allow for more donation categories like clothing and other supplies, as well as the ability to donate Uber deliveries of these packages. // BUILT WITH: Ruby on Rails, React Native JS, PostgreSQL, HPE OnDemand Barcode, Scanner API, Outpan UPC/EAN Data API // UX CREATED INVISION PROTOTYPE: https://invis.io/E76ZSJENB#/151630990_01-00-00_START_-_Home_-
