Similar to commercial credit cards, students can use the Credit SIM Card to avail of student loans that can be used to pay partner establishments directly. This is done by simply sending a text message to 29290200. SMS technology was used because using a more advanced technology such as smart phone apps and mobile Internet will discriminate the poor and is contrary to the direction of a state university. About 60% of the students in UPLB are still using basic phones.
