Yea, it is fun when you have social elements in it (you get to like posts, your post gets liked, you can see others' posts real time). However, i have a different opinion on the part about monetization. As users' posts draw customers to restaurants, this is the chance when restaurants can select some of the posts and get them featured. With the posts featured, chances of getting noticed and going to the restaurant is higher too. What's more is that this is not just some boring advertisement, but they are leveraging on real user satisfaction to attract others. So i think monetization for this is one of the easiest. As for the beer-pairing, I agree. The push notification acts as a convenience and reminder for the user to post the picture of the food with the selected beer tagged, because usually users will just close the app after knowing which beer to choose.

This is fun, but I doubt it can be monetized (and that's fine). Don't focus on the beer-pairing as a differentiator, it's using someone elses API and isn't an advantage you can maintain. Looks like (wtfsigte.com/). Why would you send me a push notification if the app is open?
