About
\\\ PROBLEM /// As of 2013, 2.1 billion people – nearly 30% of the world’s population – were either obese or overweight. The majority of this population is in the United States. According to IBISWorld data, the US healthcare crisis over the past decade, critical obesity problems, skyrocketing levels of diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases, resulted in high demand for the Nutritionists and Dietitians services. The US Nutritionists & Dietitians services industry generates $10 bln in revenue and has been growing by 5% annually in 2011-2016 (http://www.ibisworld.com/industry/nutritionists-dietitians.html). There are no companies with the dominant market share, though we can see a significant increase in self-monitoring devices and health tracking apps. As of 2013, Fitbit confirmed to sell nearly 11 million devices and generated $745.4 million in revenue last year alone. However, many people find it hard keeping track of their diet and calorie intake. One users in our survey said, “It was annoying to whip out my phone every time I put a food item in my mouth”. Another added, "It became too much of a hassle to use when I had to guess the nutritional values of homemade or restaurant food. Or even if I did know the values of the separate parts it was a hassle to enter it all. I used it in the dorms where it was near to impossible to guess the calorie content of the dinners I was eating as I didn't know everything that was in it." There should be an easy and pleasant way for users to keep track of their health. \\\ SOLUTION /// BeLight is your personal nutrition assistant that is built with Amazon Alexa smart technology.
