I almost didn’t come to Lady Problems Hackathon because I didn’t know anyone attending. I had never been to a hackathon before and had no idea what to expect. After speaking with many of the other attendees, I realized these were common anxieties that often deter people from engaging in enriching learning opportunities… especially (but not limited to) women attending tech events. What if we could automatically find a “buddy” for any event so we would never have to attend another event alone? Ally ensures that there will always be a familiar face greeting you at any event you’re attending. Users can copy and paste any event link to find an instant network of “allies” attending their event. Furthermore, when you “join” your event on Ally, the app matches you with the allies you’re trying to find: fellow females, amateurs, or foreign visitors to name a few. While our app shows this main function, there is huge opportunity for expansion: we envision a vast social network of allies on the platform, all of whom are willing to be the friendly face for those who need it.
