About
The demand for aesthetically pleasant fruits and vegetables results in the waste of discarded produce due to cosmetic imperfections. From the West Coast fields in California, all the way to the East Coast - fresh produce grown in US is left to rot in the fields, discarded in dumpsters or given to livestock just because it does not pass the “beauty” threshold. Our aim is to create a solution which would connect small business owners (restaurants, shops, farmers) with charitable organisations such as Feeding America and Urban Angels that would offer the infrastructure to pick up the produce, store it and then give away in key locations within Bay Area. Vegetables are easy to store longer term and do not require extra resources such as refrigerators or a particular room temperature which would give enough time for a charitable organisation to pick the produce and then deliver it.
