I'd never played with EL panels before, and the ones given away at the hackathon seemed fairly hackable. After reverse-engineering it, I connected it to a WiFi module (ESP8266) and wrote some new firmware to integrate it with a Heroku-hosted NodeJS server that runs the front-end UI and the Simplify Commerce logic.
