The influenza virus evolves every year, with new strains taking center stage. A given vaccination formulation typically only works for around a year due to the high virus mutability. To protect yourself from the year's most common flu viruses, it's a good idea to get a flu vaccination every year. High-risk populations, including children and the elderly, are highly advised to get vaccinated against influenza with a flu shot.
