About
Capsules.io is the platform that provides its users the freedom to augment the world around them. This is accomplished by using virtual containers called capsules which can be dropped at any location and are accessible to anyone in proximity. They can house any type of digital content: pictures, messages, videos, music, or websites. Share. Explorer. Discover. #capsulesio

@Jeff Soto - thank you. What we showed was not even remotely close to what we actually have. Get involved and find out more at: https://capsules.io/ks.html

@Bobby Gill - It depends on the type of experience you are trying to create. You could use a capsule purely for yourself - drop one at a restaurant you went to with reminders of what you liked to eat there, next time you arrive you will get a notification that reminds you to get that amazing sandwich again.
You could use them socially, drop a capsule for girl with a song/poem you wrote in a place you know she will visit at a later date.
You could use them communally, drop a capsule and allow public access to upload content, and have an exclusive portal to a collaborative content center. Write in the capsule description that you want everyone to submit there best piece of advice, or a story that happened in that location. As the owner you can see it from afar, as well as those who discovered and starred it.
Use them for business/promotion/marketing - first one to find the capsule in central parks gets a free Galaxy S5. Or the capsule contains a promotional deal.
Share capsule links on your social networks - users who have the app will be taken to discovery view and told how far away it is, they can go there and find it, or add it to a watch-list to be notified next time they are nearby.
We will eventually offer businesses a way to manage capsules from an administrative web interface, among other things.

@Ben Cohen - they actually mentioned that to me during the Q&A and I didn't remember the name of that app so it didn't connect for me (I have checked them out before). I wish I had and used it as an opportunity to talk about the differences. We are nothing like that. Flybymobile is very limited and its based all around augmenting objects, and leaving messages. Capsules.io is based around locations and its about augmenting the world with ANY type of digital content. We are also all about making the platform extensible and letting users utilize our framework in whatever way suits their needs. Create a virtual tour by leaving capsules with the same tags all around the city. Create a collaborative time capsule between friends at your favorite hangout. Share your art in cool places. Reach new audiences. Let people enjoy a world of content layered over our planet.

@Tom Anderson - I am happy to hear you like it. We have a prototype for android and really want to keep developing. Our team needs additional resources to continue building the platform. Get involved at https://capsules.io/ks.html and send me an email at info@capsules.io and I will see if I can get you in our alpha. We believe it is more than virtual geo-caching, but more so a platform for augmenting the world with useful and location relevant content. That said, we do plan on supporting a developer API to let people hack on top of it. In that case, it rapidly opens up the possibilities for games and other uses.

@Reza - There are numerous ways, but the main one being - utilizing a rating system. Users will be able to filter their environments to only show capsules that meet certain criteria. We are actively working on ways to make the filtering intelligent and connect you with the content you are after in an intuitive way.

I really wanted to mention something important that I neglected to mention in the presentation. - We have a functioning prototype for Android. What we showed was just a hack for mocking up the iOS.

The concept of capsules.io as shown in the video below is definitely interesting. It is kind of a virtual geocaching with digital content. I hope you continue to develop this platform.

Thanks Tom. We do plan to move ahead on this.

how do you prevent this from becoming a data dump when it reaches a critical mass?
Bobby Gill - 3289d
What does someone get out of dropping a capsule? Its an interesting idea and I wonder if the geo-caching crowd would be an audience for something like this?
