By triggering all cellphones in a wide radius to transmit a small amount of data which is intercepted and analysed, we count the probable number of people in an area or direction. This is used to direct disaster recovery efforts after earthquakes by guiding rescue workers towards people trapped in buildings in urban centres. Additionally it is lightweight enough to be integrated with drone systems to augment machine vision based search and rescue efforts.
