About

Amazon Echo currently used voice commands to control the house, make purchases, play music, etc. The only authentication mechanism is an optional access code. I am exploring the use of face recognition to secure access. Status update as of Jan 10'th: the project is still ongoing. I am still waiting for some additional hardware I have ordered online. Expect to receive it by end of the week. However, I am convinced that my project is solving a very real problem. Please see the following article where a newscaster accidently triggered Alexa on hundreds of devices: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/tv-news-anchors-report-accidentally-sets-off-viewers-amazons-echo-dots/ Current setup: - I am using an ultrasonic range finder to determine if someone is proximate to the Alexa or not. The challenge I am facing is the following .. I want to be able to mute the Alexa if no one is close by and unmute if the range finder detects someone. However, the current Alexa SDK may not have this ability. I am trying to figure out an alternative. Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ywjwvlDhZE
